‘X’ scraps India’s order to suspend accounts related to farmers’ protest

Elon Musk-led social media entity X said it will conceal certain accounts and posts in acquiescence with the administrative orders furnished by the government of India, the emergency blocking orders of the ministry of electronics and information technology were negotiated against different social media accounts and posts that are related to the farmers’ protest.

The company is at loggerheads with the guidelines and emphasized its decision to freedom of speech. The officials of X from Global Government Affairs wrote, “The Indian government has issued executive orders requiring X to act on specific accounts and posts, subject to potential penalties including significant fines and imprisonment. In compliance with the orders, we will withhold these accounts and posts in India alone; however, we disagree with these actions and maintain that freedom of expression should extend to these posts.”

On the abeyance of 177 accounts linked to the Delhi Chalo march by the farmers surrounding the city, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has clinched its orders. Requesting them to block these accounts to maintain public order, the Central government sent this order to various social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Snap and X.

As reported by the PTI, the companies were told that the accounts need to be scrapped till February 19 to maintain law and order, after which they can be re- instituted.
