The upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games are going to happen in the French capital from July 26th to August 11th. For this, Abhinav Bindra who is India’s first individual gold medallist at the Olympic games, has been selected as a torchbearer and he will be part of the Olympic torch relay, which is scheduled to take place from April 16 to July 26.
In 2008, Abhinav Bindra won gold in the men’s 10m air rifle in the Beijing Olympic games. Sharing his happiness on Instagram handle, Abhinav said, “Excited to share that I’ll be a torchbearer for the @paris2024 Olympic Games, a beacon of peace and perseverance across the globe. This flame represents our collective spirit and the power of dreams. A great privilege and honour!”
With the flame arriving in Marseille ahead of sixty eight days of travel across the French territories, the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay will commence in France on May 8th this year and it will cover 65 territories along with 5 foreign territories. There will be three thousand torchbearers, along with 10,000 torch bearers who will take part in Team Relays and will visit four hundred cities.
The torch bearers were selected through a long procedure which started on June 1st, 2023. The torch will be lit near Olympia in Greece. After, the route of the Olympic flame will start its journey on sea, on board the Belem.
