Mumbai Cricket Team wins 42nd Ranji Trophy; Gets Rs 10 crore winning bonus

It is absolutely a double surprise for the Mumbai Cricket Team. They won the title for the 42nd time, which led them to get INR 10 crore. Mumbai defeated Vidarbha in the final by 169 runs, and on the other hand, Musheer Khan clinched the fame ‘Man of the Tournament’ for his excellency. As stated by the MCA secretary Ajinkya Rahane, “MCA President Amol Kale and Apex Council have decided to double Ranji Trophy prize money. The MCA will pay an additional amount of Rs 5 crore to the winning Mumbai Ranji Trophy team.”

The MCA’s decision was appreciated by the Mumbai head coach Omkar Salvi. On appreciation, Omkar said that it was a great decision to double the prize money considering that a lot of players don’t have full-time jobs these days. He also said there are very few institutions which furnish jobs for all the players, now-a-days. There is also a lot of lure for youngsters, towards the cricket field, where there is also a lot of money.

He further said, “The BCCI is deciding to do so and increasing the money together with that, the MCA taking that step forward to equalize the amount is a big assistance for the players who don’t have jobs or earnings. It is surely an inspiration and it should be wide-the herculean aid will provide them that insecurity and it will perfectly balance them both mentally and financially. So that they can attempt their best performance in the game.”

Akshay Wadkar (102), the skipper of Vidarbha and Harsh Dubey (65) kept Mumbai at bay on the last day for the complete session post the start of Vidarbha on 248 for 5, requiring another 290 runs to achieve the match.
