India Vs West Indies:  Rohit Sharma confirms Yashasvi Jaiswal debut, Shubman Gill to bat at No 3 in 1st Test

Yashaswi Jaiswal, who performed brilliantly in this year’s IPL and was selected for the national team, is going to make his Test debut. Captain Rohit Sharma revealed that Yashaswi will open the first Test against West Indies starting on  12th July. While Rohit and Yashasvi will be the openers, Shubman Gill will be the third.

As senior batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was not selected for this series, it is remarkable that Gill will come to bat in his place. Yashasvi, who was a stand-by player during the WTC final , did not get a chance to play. But not only is he selected for the West Indies tour, but he is also getting a chance to play in the first Test itself.

Although Ruthuraj Gaikwad was also selected for this series, Yashaswi is making his Test debut before him . Speaking to senior journalist Vimal Kumar, Rohit also said that India will field two spinners in the first Test. His IPL team Rajasthan Royals took to Twitter to congratulate Yashaswi as he was about to open.

Royals made this tweet with a question mark saying New Era. Along with centuries in Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy, Yashasvi excelled in IPL 2023 as well. This got him a place in Team India. In this season he scored 625 runs.
