Athlete Jyothi Yarraji won gold in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship. In the 60m hurdles event, she won the gold medal with a national record timing and brought another medal for India.
Indian athlete Jyothi Yarraji has shown her strength in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship being held in Tehran (Iran). She won the gold in the 60m hurdles event with a new national record timing of 8.12 seconds to bring home India’s first medal. Jyothi, who bettered her own NR from last year’s edition in Kazakhstan, opened the 2024 season with this performance. There she won silver.
Meanwhile, Jyothi Yarraji broke the national record of 8.13 seconds set last year. Jyothi finished the heat of the event with a time of 8.22 seconds and showed an even better performance in the final. Asuka Tereda (Japan 8.21s) and Lui Lai Yu (Hong Kong 8.21s) won silver and bronze medals. Jyothi Yarraji from Andhra Pradesh is taking training at Reliance Foundation High Performance Center in Bhubaneswar.
Jyothi Yarraji shares her joy in winning the gold medal. “Asia Indoor Athletics Championship is a very good experience. It is the first international competition of the opening season. So I am very happy with my performance. This gold medal is special. I was a bit worried because of muscle pain last week. But, my team at Reliance Foundation, physiotherapists have prepared me for the competition. Jyothi Yarraji said.
