Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra excelled at the World Athletics Championships. He won the gold medal and rewrote history. He set a record as the first Indian player to win a gold medal in the World Athletics Championship. Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal by throwing the javelin 88.17 meters in the javelin throw final held at Budapest, Hungary.

Neeraj Chopra could not throw the javelin in the first round due to a foul. In the second round, he threw the javelin at a distance of 88.17 meters and not only jumped into the top place but also secured the medal.

Neeraj Chopra threw 86.32, 84.64, 87.73, 83.98 meters in the next attempts. Arshad Nadeem (87.82 meters) from Pakistan won the silver medal, while Jakub Vadlejk (86.67 meters) from the Czech Republic won the bronze medal.

Along with Neeraj Chopra, Indian players Kishore Jena (84.77) finished fifth and DP Manu (84.14) finished sixth in the javelin throw, showing career best performance. After shooter Abhinav Bindra, Neeraj Chopra created the record of being the athlete who won the Olympics as well as the World Championship title.
