Serbian sensation Novak Djokovic has created a new history in tennis. He took revenge on his Russian rival Medvedev and won the US Open 2023 title and wrote a rare record in his name. In 1968, he tied the record for the most Grand Slam titles won since the start of the Open Era of tennis.

This is the 24th Grand Slam title of Djokovic’s career. In this sequence, he surpassed the legendary player Serena Williams. He equaled Margaret Court with 24 titles. However, 13 of her 24 titles were before the Open era. This is the fourth US Open title for Djokovic. Novak Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in the final on Sunday (September 10) night.

Medvedev shocked Djokovic, who had won the US Open less than two years ago and wanted to become the player who won the Calendar Grand Slam after Rod Laver in 1969. Medvedev won the first major title of his career by defeating Novak in the final that year. Now Djokovic avenged the defeat.

He missed this Grand Slam last year because he did not take the covid vaccine. He was not given that chance in the US Open. He was in trouble in the fierce second set. However, he bounced back and easily defeated Medvedev in the third set. This is the fourth time for Djokovic to win three Grand Slam titles in one year. Previously he won three Grand Slams in 2011, 2015 and 2021. But the dream of a calendar grand slam remains the same. On Monday (September 11), Djokovic is set to regain the number one ranking.
